We work with some of the most talented photographers
in the western U.S. We would like to thank each one and give you a brief profile
of each.
Matt Liedecker:
Growing up in Ketchum, Idaho, Matt had no end to wild-country exploits, be they
snowbound or waterlogged. Before heading to Vermont’s Middlebury College
he raced with the Sun Valley Ski Team. As a junior in high school, he became
a river guide on the Middle Fork of the Salmon.
After
graduating from college in 1997, Matt returned to Idaho and became a guide with
Sun Valley Heli-Ski, continued to spend summers guiding river trips, and added
professional photography to his outdoor pursuits. His work has been published
in the Kavu and Black Diamond catalogs as well as magazines including Backcountry,
Middlebury Magazine, and Travel and Leisure. Matt’s most notable photographic
achievement to date is his publication of Impassable Canyon: Journey Down the
Middle Fork of the Salmon (Sun Valley Press, 2002), a coffee-table collection
of his images from Idaho’s Salmon River.

Fred Foto:
Fred Foto is a product of one of his competitors in the Snowthrill of Alaska.
"I went to the Scott Markewitz school of posing," says Fred of his
formal photography training. That was over seven years ago, and Foto was a ski
model who often shot with the illustrious Markewitz. "That was back when
skiers got paid, because we were models," he jokes. "Models get paid;
freeskiers don't. That's why they're called "free".
Looking forward to a more secure future, the Boise, Idaho native bought his
first camera off Markewitz and started shooting. It wasn't long before he was
making a name for himself by working the other side of the camera. Now one of
Freeze Magazine's primary shooters, Foto also shoots mountain biking, climbing,
and took some of his most mind-blowing shots from a helicopter hovering over
a surf break in Hawaii. Foto currently lives at the mouth of Utah's Little Cottonwood
Canyon, where he has been skiing for the last 12 years.
Sigi Vogl:
A Ketchum resident since 1999, Sigi is a first generation American with roots
from Austria and Ecuador. Ever since his introduction to the mountains of his
youth in the Bavarian Alps, Sigi has devoted his life to outdoor pursuits anywhere
from the vertical walls of Yosemite to the steep slopes of the Alps.
Being an all-around outdoor athlete, Sigi is an accomplished alpinist-climber,
guide and backcountry skier of over three decades, Sigi’s passion for
nature has been the motivator for a voracious appetite of “capturing the
moment” through the lense of a camera, purely on a amateur basis. In winter
you will find Sigi either on the fine nordic ski trails or ski touring in the
backcountry of the Sun Valley area. During the summer months you will find him
either exploring seldom climbed routes in Idaho’s Sawtooth Mountains or
cragging at the City of Rocks with his new bride and long time climbing partner
Natasha Sevilla. Sigi is currently Marketing Director for Sun Valley Heli Ski
Guides, Inc.
